What can I download in the Wii Shop Channel?
In the Wii Shop Channel, you can spend Wii Points to download select titles from your favourite classic Nintendo Entertainment System™ (NES), Super Nintendo Entertainment System™ (Super Nintendo), Nintendo 64™ (N64), SEGA MEGA DRIVE™, Turbografx™ (PC Engine) and NEOGEO™ games. The Wii Shop Channel will also provide you access to Wii Software exclusive for Wii. After downloading content from the Wii Shop Channel, that content will appear as its own Channel in the Wii Menu.
What are the payment options?
The downloading of software is done through the use of Wii Points. You can purchase Wii Points through the Wii Shop Channel using a Visa or a MasterCard. You can also redeem a Wii Points Card for Wii Points.
Wii Points have no monetary value and cannot be redeemed for cash. All Points and software downloads are only for use on a single Wii console and are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Where can I purchase Wii Points Cards?
You can obtain a Wii Points Card at many retailers that carry Nintendo products.
How do I use a Wii Points Card?
To redeem a Wii Points Card, select ADD Wii POINTS from the Wii Shop Channel main menu. Scratch off the silver area on the back of the card to reveal the Points Card activation number. Enter the activation number into the appropriate field on the screen. After you submit the number, the number of Points printed on the front of the card will be added to your account.
Will the games downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel include an instruction manual?
Yes. An electronic instruction manual will be included with each game downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel. Press HOME while you are playing a downloaded game to open the HOME menu , and select OPERATIONS GUIDE to see the manual.
Is there an easy way to see which controller I can use to play a particular game?
Yes. View the Details screen of any game listed in the Shop Channel. The controller icons will tell you which controllers you can use to play.
Can I return something I’ve downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel?
Any games, items, and features downloaded through the Wii Shop Channel are non-refundable and non-transferable.
How do I make more blocks available?
Content downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel is saved within your Wii console memory. To see the memory available, select DATA MANAGEMENT from the Wii Options screen. If the content you want to download requires more memory blocks than you have available, you will need to manage your content.
To free up memory blocks, you can either move Channels or save data to an SD card, or you can delete Channels or games to which you no longer need ready access. If you decide to delete a game or Channel, you can always return to the Wii Shop Channel and re-download it at no additional cost.
Can I back up the Virtual Console downloads on an SD card?
Content downloaded through the Wii Shop Channel can be copied to an SD card. Furthermore, with some Virtual Console games, save data for a game can be backed up on an SD card. However, both the game and save data can only be used on the Wii console for which the game was downloaded.
What is the UPDATE button I see on some game descriptions in the Wii Shop Channel?
This UPDATE button indicates there are enhancements for the game. If you have already downloaded the game, you may select UPDATE to download the enhancements. Please note, downloading the update may impact the saved game data.
I reformatted my Wii through the system settings. Can I get my content back?
Yes. To get back any Wii Shop Channel content you have lost by reformatting your Wii system, select TITLES YOU’VE DOWNLOADED from the main menu of the Wii Shop Channel and re-download any games, items or features at no additional cost.
Can I transfer or share Virtual Console content with other Wii systems in my household?
All Points and software downloads are only for use on a single Wii console and are non-refundable and non-transferable.
A game I downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel isn’t working properly. How do I get it fixed?
If you experience problems with a game downloaded via the Wii Shop Channel, you can re-download the game free of charge. If any enhancements or fixes for a specific game are available, this will be indicated by an UPDATE button on the game description in the Wii Shop Channel. If you continue to experience problems, please contact the Nintendo Service Centre for assistance.
How can I remove my Wii Shop Channel Account?
Please select SETTINGS from the Wii Shop Channel menu, then select REMOVE Wii SHOP CHANNEL ACCOUNT.
If you remove your Wii Shop Channel Account, all of your registered Wii Points and downloaded software will be deleted, and you will not be able to re-download the software for free.
If your Wii console is transferred to another person, your registered Wii Points and the software you have downloaded cannot be transferred, so your Wii Shop Channel Account will first have to be removed.
Caution! Once your Wii Shop Channel Account has been removed, you will not be able to recover it.
Are the games on Virtual Console the same as the original games, or have they been enhanced?
Virtual Console games reproduce the game content, moves, representation etc. true to the original piece when it was released, and the basic program, characters, sound etc. have not been changed. While the porting of games from original systems may result in minor changes to the game display, these changes do not affect gameplay.
How do the Parental Controls work?
The Wii Parental Controls settings offer you a means to manage what Wii content is accessible to the console users. If you apply Parental Controls, you will be prompted to set a 4-digit PIN which will allow you to adjust the Parental Controls settings in the future and also allow you to access content that may be restricted by the Parental Controls settings. The first time you select the Parental Controls option, the system will ask you to adjust the settings in order to specify which will be the HIGHEST GAME RATING ALLOWED.
Who can I send gifts to?
You can send gifts to anyone you have registered as a Wii Friend, except for Friends whose Wii has been set to a country different to that of your Wii console, and Friends who do not have a Wii Number.
What is a Wii Friend?
A Wii Friend is someone whose Wii Number or mail address you have registered in your Wii console’s Address Book, and who has likewise registered your Wii Number or mail address in their Address Book.
How long does it take for a gift to arrive?
The time taken for a gift to arrive at the recipient’s Wii depends on the network connection.
Can I set a date for a gift to be delivered on?
No, this is not possible.
Can I exchange software received as a gift for different software?
No, software received as a gift cannot be exchanged.
What happens if a gift is not received?
A message will be sent to the person who sent the gift, and their Wii Points will be refunded.
Can I send previously-downloaded software as a gift without paying for it again?
No, this is not possible.
How can I check if a gift I sent has arrived?
Select ACCOUNT ACTIVITY from the main menu of the Wii Shop Channel, and select the title of the software you sent to check if it has arrived.
Can I cancel a gift?
No, gifts cannot be cancelled. You should contact the recipient and ask them to decline the gift.
